Miscellania
This blog’s content is now listed daily on the Alltop - All the Photography News blog. Thanks to all of you who stop by here on a regular basis to take a peak – this blog is starting to gain a following.
For those of you who want to create a cool HDR effect from a single image I highly recommend this tutorial. The image below was made from a single exposure using my own ‘fake HDR’ method that is very similar to the one described. I also regularily use Nik software (Silver Efex Pro, Color Efex Pro, and Viveza) on many of my images to add a little pizzazz especially for more artistic renditions where I want to emphasize mood.

Below are several blogs I like to check out regularly:
Daily Dose of Imagery
This is Toronto’s Sam Javanrouh’s daily image posting. I find Sam’s urban imagery to be very inspiring. Be sure to also check out Sam’s wonderful Blurb books
A Walk Through Durham Township Pennsylvania
This is Kathleen Connally’s blog where she posts images captured near her home in Durham Township. I love the idea of a project where the photographer shoots her own backyard and makes really creative images not because the location is fantastic but because her eye is trained to see beauty everywhere.
Chromasia Blog
David Nightingale’s wonderful imagery captivates my eye and for those wanting fantastic instructional tutorials, David’s chromasia site is a great place to learn.
aswirly’s place
Amber Richards comments on my blog on a regular basis. I was intrigued and so checked out her blog. Fun, light-hearted, spirited and creative. I make of point of seeing what she is up to a couple of times a week.
The Pixelated Image
No week is complete for me without a stop to David duChemin’s great blog where I get lots of philosophy and musings about photography, life and travel.

A beautiful image and the “fake hdr” treatment sure worked a treat here making it so vibrant. I love how tonemapping gives colors and detail such a punch. I used a single raw tonemapping treatment for this image: http://aswirly.files.wordpress.com/2009/07/coffee-tm-sm.jpg. I doubt many would know it was “Hdr’d” but the effect really makes the image 3-d I think. Oh, and those Nik filters? I LOVE them. Granted, most of the effects can be achieved with PS itself, but those filters are easy and work a charm. I have become addicted to the Color effex, Silver efex, and I love Dfine too when I screw up and leave my ISO at too high a number. lol… Anyways, enough of my rambling. Thank you for the plug!!
