Year End Contest – Tom Nevesely
Tom Nevesely
I shot this photo on Boxing Day morning. While thousands of people were lining up at the malls looking for deals, I went to an overlook over the Bow River a few minutes from my house in Calgary, Alberta. I went out to photograph the mountains, about 100km away, but I was immediately taken aback by the fog and hoar frost in the river valley below me. I was photographing the hoar frost covered trees and fog in the valley with my 300mm lens (with a 1.4x TC) when I noticed this Mule Deer buck about 200m+ away. I shot several photos as he was running and this is the photo I liked the best.

This sure is beautiful. The mule deer looks so small in that grand scene.

I love how the light filters through the fog at different levels – a really nice effect. Good capture!

This is a great shot Tom! I love the mood and sense of scale that the deer provides to the scene. This is also one of my favs of yours!
