The Canadian Landscape Contest – Randall Quon
The late afternoon sun is filtered by smoke from a controlled burn, colouring Mt. Amery and its reflection in one of the Rampart Ponds. Last fall, I was scouting locations for sunrise the next morning. Driving up the Icefields Parkway, I thought that the smoky haze would make photography difficult. When I saw the smoke drifting in front of the sun, turning it red, I knew that this would be a unique opportunity. I came back here for the sunrise, but this turned image out better than the sunrise version. Exposure blended, 8 frame panorama. Canon 5D with 17-40mm lens @ 24mm with polarizer.
