Travel Photo Contest – Doug Pruden

I took this photo in July, 2009 at Head Smashed in Buffalo Jump near Lethbridge AB. The original photograph has been edited in Nik Color Efex Pro using The Bleach Bypass filter to mute the colours a bit and add some drama to the darkening sky.

After touring the interpretation centre at the site, we went out for a walk along the cliffs where the buffalo jump took place. The darkening sky of a gathering storm to the north filled the scene with a lot of drama and energy that spoke of the dependance the First Nations people had on the bounty supplied by the Great Spirit. The sky speaks the message that all of our bounty is but a gift and that we should remember its true source. The moment was spiritual, and this photograph is my attempt to interpret the mood.
