The Weekly Photo – October 3, 2011
Canon EOS-1ds Mark III, Sigma 24-70mm lens at 26mm, base exposure was 1.6s at f14, Singh-Ray LB Warming polarizer, 5 exposure bracket processed in Oloneo PhotoEngine and then converted to B+W in Nik Silver Efex Pro and then layered back with the PhotoEngine colour image. I would not have done all those steps if they didn’t add to the image! I have posted the original image for you to see the ‘before’.

Could you explain a bit about the intent behind and process of layering the b&w back into the tonemapped image?

Great shot Darwin, you can almost smell the old rotting truck. The treatment is fantastic, I know you’ve mentioned before how much you like oloneo. I have been looking at options for extending dynamic range with a natural look for black and white, in your opinion is this one of the better options?

I am now using PhotoEngine almost exclusively for all my HDR work. Love it!

Darwin, I am also using Oloneo for most of my HDR work. It has to be the most realistic looking HDR – love the stuff you are doing with it!!!

That’s a lot of steps to go through but it looks like the results are definitely worth it. I love the result!

So are you windows user or do you use it (oloneo) through parallels? I’m mac user and considering buying win7 and parallels..
