This shot was made at Pico island (Azores) near Pico Mountain, the highest mountain in Portugal. This was one of the most amazing scenarios that I was ever presented with. It was made during a full moon night while hiking to shoot the sunrise and I was amazed by this view. The conditions were unique! The bright light from the full moon illuminated the fast moving clouds below the Pico Mountain. I used a 93 seconds exposure to blur the fast moving clouds and register this surreal atmosphere that I call “Dreamscape”. ~ Rui Vieira

The Weekly Photo – March 21, 2011

Here are three photos all taken on the same day on a quick trip from Cochrane to Jasper, Alberta. I needed to get the GPS coordinates for my new eBook on the Icefields Parkway in Winter and so had only a short time to snap some images. It was not a big light day but the mountains always reveal some lovely images if we are open to seeing and know where to look. Plus it was wonderful to be out of the office and in the mountains! For short road trips and hikes I almost always take my Rebel kit with three Sigma lenses (an 8-16mm, a 17-50mm and a 70-200mm lens).
