The Daily Snap – August 30

As part of our trip to the Yukon we got to experience heli-hiking and Yurt Camping with Uncommon Journeys, an adventure outfitter out of Whitehorse. We were dropped by helicopter onto this alpine meadow overlooking the Ibex valley. From here we hiked to the top of the mountain and then down into the valley for a luxury stay in Uncommon Journey’s Wilderness Yurt Camp. What a fantastic experience! And for interests sake, this photo was taken on Aug 17 (two weeks ago) and look at the progression of fall colours! So… if you want to see fall colours in the Yukon, don’t wait until September, get there in the last week of August to make sure you don’t miss some prime displays.

The photo below is from the summit showing the St. Elias Mountains in the distance. Thanks to Kris from Uncommon Journeys for taking such a good photo of us!

An easy summit thanks to a helicopter!

  1. I’m so jealous! The Yukon is top on my travel wish list and I’m not so far. Now, I’ll have to save up enough for a heli-hiking excursion! 🙂 Lovely photos.

  2. Great shots! Beautiful country.

  3. Beautiful photos of the Yukon! Your infatuation with this area of wonderful country is showing…… need to just start packing and get yourselves up there ASAP!! You know you want to…….Not too many people have an opportunity like this and if I were younger and married to a man that loved the outdoors as much as myself, I’d be living in Alaska somewhere……..
So, I’ll read your blog everyday and hope you and your wife make it to somewhere in the Yukon. What inspiration you’ll find!!
